(First of two concerts, St. Timothy's church in Morro Bay, while on bathroom break duty)
What's that?
Holy water.
What's it made of?
Water.
Why is it holy?
Because it's been blessed.
What's blessed?
Um...
(Rescued at this point by a mother who must've stayed in Sunday school longer than I did.)
Look, there's mold in the holy water, MOLD! Look!
Later, I was recounting this conversation for Tom and Hannah (that wasn't her above), and she wanted to know not only what blessed meant, but what a priest was (the sound you're hearing is a thousand grandparental tongues clucking in unison).
It was a lovely concert. And I got to hear it all again at 3 on Saturday (or not hear, since I'm the debut choir sitter, which means I help keep the noise level down as best as I can). Little kids have immeasurably sweet voices, and even grizzled as I am, it always brings tears to my eyes. The choir closes every year with a song of peace, and the words of this year's just resonated with me:
"Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me."

Above: A few drawings done Friday night (aka how to keep a group of kids quiet). Hannah drew the bear at bottom right.
