I've noticed that kids and parents both really like Mrs. Johnson's classes: Moms get something they can keep, and the kids love whatever they come out with. I think she works on a step-by-step basis, where the class is all about making a single pre-determined thing, and she paints along with the kids. It's abundantly clear that Mrs. Johnson loves color. And however she teaches art, she's found a winning formula.

Dog (and rooster): I discovered yesterday that there's a term for Mrs. Johnson's winning formula: Directed Drawing, where the teacher draws along with the class and demonstrates every step.
Simple popup: An easy one for kids to do on their own.
