Mobile 2

I'm experimenting with clay for the new mobile. So far I've been able to do 2 batches of birds while with Hannah on Saturdays but it's probably time to head to the studio by myself on a week night.

I love that I can curve the shapes, and I've been able to make them as thin as the acrylic ones. The previous set was fired this weekend, and I can pick them up on Tuesday for a light sanding, a step that I'll skip with these now drying on my table. Some minor scraping got this batch smooth, and any sanding will remove my tool marks. And I have all sorts of thoughts about integrity of the material, but I'm not sure that matters since they'll get a new surface with a matte glaze. Glazing does bring up a whole level of difficulty since they'll need to be suspended while in the kiln, and I am curious as to how that will be done.

Then, other decisions: the connectors on which they'll hang. Real twigs? I have some small laser-cut wooden branches but I think these new birds seem to need less rigidly shaped connecting pieces.
