Hannah did one about 3 years ago, but with a whole lot of help, so I think this below counts as her first real thrown object (this bowl was centered for her but she did the rest). Clay on a wheel is almost hypnotic in its malleability -- the lightest of pressures travels fluidly across the piece. It's tempting to sit there and lose yourself while playing with it, forgetting that the more it's handled the greater the chance it will self-destruct.
Interesting how as her pieces get some heft (and permanence, by implication), they become more difficult to throw away. We've pitched hundreds of drawings (yes!) but somehow these little bits of pottery are harder to discard, and this is when six grandmas come in handy. What I've done is distributed them across the country -- it's such fun to visit someone and discover something we'd long forgotten about. I do that with printed photos too, most times not keeping a copy for us.

With thumb firmly planted in mouth: Apparently, 2 years ago, I decided to do a comic strip.
